Applying for Membership in the ACM Future of Computing Academy
Are you an early-career computing professional with a passion for improving the field? Would you like to embrace the joy, sacrifice, and professional benefits of computing community leadership? If so, you should apply to join the Future of Computing Academy (FCA) - a new ACM initiative to foster computing's next generation of leaders.
ACM has charged the FCA with the "privilege and responsibility to become the voice of the future of the computing field at large and of ACM specifically." Our mission is to "substantially improve (1) computing, (2) the computing community, and (3) computing's relationship with society." Currently, our members are engaged in activities such as mitigating the negative societal impact of computing advances through foundational changes to peer review and software licensing. Although only 1.5 years old, we have created podcasts, written public statements, organized summits, developed research manifestos, and much more. Read about our activities and working groups on the FCA website.
The FCA consists of talented professionals from across computing in academia, research labs, established companies, and startups who are committed to making a positive and lasting impact on ACM and the global computing profession. Our members are good at leading and excellent at executing. We also know well that true leadership involves sacrifice, and that making change involves extensive effort.
Inductees from the FCA’s second admission cycle will help establish our long-term trajectory. New members will be invited to contribute to existing initiatives and/or create new ones in keeping with the FCA's broad mission. If you have been discussing a change you want to make within computing, the FCA could provide the support structure you need to catalyze discussion into action.
The deadline for this application cycle will be February 28, 2019. Apply now!
