IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Register for ACM and SIGHPC Webcast: "Extreme Scaling and Performance across Diverse Architectures"
If you haven't yet done so, register now for "Extreme Scaling and Performance across Diverse Architectures" with Salman Habib of Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago. In this talk, Habib will provide an introduction to basic issues in performance and scalability for large-scale applications on parallel supercomputers. Attendees will learn why code "ports" are difficult across architectures, if performance is a major criterion; differences in future architectures and what they mean for code design and optimization; the key role played by understanding of the domain science as well as the algorithmic implementation; and the importance of layering the code to allow for easy implementation across architectures.
Rajeev Thakur, of Argonne National Laboratory and ACM SIGHPC, moderates.
You can view our entire archive of past ACM Learning Webinars on demand at http://learning.acm.org/webinar/.
Bertrand Meyer Returns March 27 for "Agile Methods: The Good, the Hype and the Ugly, Part II"
If you enjoyed "Agile Methods: The Good, the Hype and the Ugly" but didn't get a chance to get your question answered, register now for Bertrand Meyer's exclusive follow-up webcast airing on Friday, March 27.
In this presentation, Meyer, Professor of Software Engineering at ETH Zurich and an ACM Fellow, will focus heavily on audience questions arising from the February 18 webinar. (Anyone who has not seen the original event is strongly encouraged to do so before registering for Friday's webcast). Will Tracz, Lockheed Martin Fellow Emeritus and Chair of ACM SIGSOFT, returns to moderate.

Featured MK Title: Visual Computing for Medicine
The second edition of Visual Computing for Medicine offers cutting-edge visualization techniques and their applications in medical diagnosis, education, and treatment. The book includes algorithms, applications, and ideas on achieving reliability of results and clinical evaluation of the techniques covered. Authors Preim and Botha illustrate visualization techniques from research, but also cover the information required to solve practical clinical problems. The book is based on several years of combined teaching and research experience. This new edition includes six new chapters on treatment planning, guidance, and training; an updated appendix on software support for visual computing for medicine; and a new global structure that better classifies and explains the major lines of work in the field. You can find more than 360 other Morgan Kaufmann and Syngress titles in the ACM eBook catalog.
